Confessions of a frontman

The end is nigh.

I can already see it. I'm frozen in some classic rock pose, at the edge of the stage with about 300 people screaming for more. It's 30 minutes before the club closes and the band just finished the last song.

The final gig with Undercover is over, and there's nothing left to do but to tip my hat at some great musicians!

I got into the band over a year ago, following a recommendation from a friend of mine who called me and asked if I wanted to audition. I got the gig, and was suddenly faced with a new challenge. Being on stage without a guitar. I've been a musician for over 10 years, but being on stage at mortens that first gig made me feel like I walked on stage for the first time all over again. I remember tying a red scarf around the mic stand, trying the Steven Tyler thing, hoping everyone would be so distracted that they wouldn't notice my total lack of moves.

I missed cues, forgot lyrics bumped into people on stage and made a fool out of myself.

(With a smile, of course.)

But after more than a year of trial and error, losing that scarf and finding out that hips don't lie (damn you Shakira!), I've got to say that it just feels so natural to be on stage with just a mic. I still need to work on some moves, but hey. So does pretty much everyone in Nickelback.

So thank you guys, for making me feel more comfortable on stage. It's something I'll never forget and I wish you all the best in search of the next lead singer.

All the best!

/Martin
